Announcing a poetry reading sponsored by the Federal Poets & the Silver Spring Regional Center

The Federal Poets will hold a poetry reading on Thursday, October 21, 2010, 7:30 p.m., at the Silver Spring Civic Center, One Veterans Place, conveniently located near the Silver Spring metro stop, Wayne Avenue & Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD

There will be two featured readers:

Miles David Moore, who is founder and host of the Iota poetry reading series in Arlington, Va., and a former board member of The Word Works. His books include The Bears of Paris, Buddha Isn't Laughing, and Rollercoaster.

Judith McCombs, who arranges the Kensington Row Bookshop Poetry Series. A former visual artist and now, a semi-formalist poet, she is currently working on an historic sequence. Her books include Against Nature: Wilderness Poems and The Habit of Fire: Poems Selected and New.

An open poetry reading will follow. Due to space and time limitations, we will accept the first twenty (20) participants, who must sign up starting at 7:30 p.m. Each reader may read one 1 or 2 poems not to exceed one (1) page in length. Time permitting, we will open up reading to readers.

THE FEDERAL POETS is the oldest continuously active poetry group in the Washington D.C. area. First convened in 1944, it is a nonprofit organization open to all poets without regard to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or political affiliation.

The Federal Poets meet monthly.

You do not have to be a Federal employee or a resident of DC to belong. We invite all interested poets.
