A vengeful, masked composer (Lon Chaney) prowls the depths of the Paris Opera House, appearing only when his love for the beautiful young singer Christine (Mary Philbin) can be stifled no longer. Lon Chaney, “the Man of a Thousand Faces,” created one of his most iconic and haunting performances in this hugely influential gothic melodrama. This restoration by Film Preservation Associates features the original tints and Technicolor of the 1929 theatrical version, as well as the meticulously hand-colored sequences that reproduce the Handschiegl Color Process.
