The Silver Spring Urban District provides special services to the Central Business District to ensure that downtown Silver Spring is maintained in a clean, safe and attractive manner to promote a vibrant social and business climate and to ensure long-term economic viability and vitality. These services include security, streetscape maintenance, tree maintenance, sidewalk repairs, marketing, and promotions and events. The Silver Spring Urban District sponsors a summer concert series, the Silver Spring Jazz Festival, the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade, and other events to attract people to come to downtown Silver Spring.
