About Snakehead Run (Papa Denny, Bro Mark, Son Bunch)
Papa Denny Buck and Bro Mark Casale have been jamming together in the DC-area open mic scene now for almost three years, gigging for almost two. They play an infectious, driving variety of old-time acoustic blues that often has audiences on their feet whooping and dancing. With the addition of Son Bunch (Jim "Gutbucketeer" Bunch) they have become Snakehead Run.
Guitarist and lead vocalist Denny is a 30-plus-year veteran of bars, coffeehouses and festivals in his native Ohio, New York City, and in DC since the mid-80s. He sings and plays on his steel Dobro with all the intensity and enthusiasm of his idols Bukka White, Blind Boy Fuller, Robert Wilkins, and various Johnsons.
Multi-instrumentalist Mark settles here on mandolin in the style of blues virtuosos Yank Rachell and Charlie McCoy, and adds some funky fiddling. He also contributes the back-up vocals and the composition of a couple fiddle tunes for the group. His talents have led the duo to explore the string and jug band side of the blues spectrum.
A recent addition to the band is Son Bunch (Jim "The Gutbucketeer" Bunch) on washtub bass and jug. Jim has accumulated a lot of experience on the 'tub in his many years, also playing with The All New Genetically Altered Jug Band. Raise your hand if you can tell he's not playing a standard bass. Put 'em back down, liars! We know he's originally from Texas and started playing his tub bass on the streets of Ann Arbor. Come see him do his Jug dance!
