MD National Capital Park & Planning

The purpose of the Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning is to improve the quality of life by conserving and enhancing the natural and developed environment for current and future generations.

The Department oversees the acquisition, development and management of a nationally recognized, award winning park system providing County residents with open space for recreational opportunities and natural resources stewardship.

The Department is also responsible for the preparation of master plans for review by the Planning Board and approval by the County Council. Department staff review proposed development to see that it conforms with the laws, plans and policies, and reports their findings to the Planning Board for action. The Department gathers and analyzes various types of information to help public officials prepare for Montgomery County's future.
