About this project

Invest in Social Justice Summer and you will support eight teens to use their media skills to produce a film and visual art campaign to promote the importance of youth space in urban environments, specifically Silver Spring and the Washington DC metro area.

Social Justice Summer

Just like adults, youth are also impacted by the current economic climate. In fact, their rate of joblessness is triple that of adults.

To these ends, it is critical we provide our core youth leaders with job opportunities where they cam make a fair wage while continuing to hone their media skills, engage with their community, build their personal vision of leadership and service, and enact authentic youth-led change.

Social Justice Summer will provide paid leadership positions for middle school and high school youth to:

  • Receive expert training to build their media knowledge base
  • Mentor, lead, and be role models to their younger peers
  • Plan, manage, and complete a community media project
  • Complete a social marketing plan they will employ through community events and transmedia.
