INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN SSCAB COMMITTEE MEETINGS

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN SSCAB COMMITTEE MEETINGS
and update on developments "in the news"

With summer now a distant memory and children back at school, the members of the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board (SSCAB) are also back at work, discussing ways to make our Silver Spring and Takoma Park communities even better places to live, work and play. (The SSCAB provides advice to our County Executive and County Council on the many issues facing our community.)

Over the last few weeks news reports have been written about the SSCAB's efforts to ensure the community is kept informed of the status of the many County projects in Silver Spring; and to express the community's desires on these critical projects, namely the Silver Spring Transit Center and the Silver Spring Library (old and new). A recap:

- Should the current Library be turned into an intergenerational recreation center? (HERE)

- When will the Silver Spring Transit Center be completed? (HERE)

- Construction on the new library should begin this November. (HERE)

And the conversations continue. On Monday night (September 24th) there will be two very interesting meetings taking place in the Silver Spring Civic Building. One meeting will explore the details of the County's plan for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) via a conversation with Councilmember Marc Elrich, and the other will discuss the planned redevelopment in Silver Spring with Montgomery County Planning Board Member Casey Anderson. Both meetings start at 7pm and are organized by members of the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board:

- Transportation, Energy and Environment (TREE) Committee: discussion on BRT

- A combined meeting of the Commercial and Economic Development (CED) Committee and the Neighborhoods Committee: discussion on proposed redevelopment in Silver Spring

We hope you can attend and share your thoughts on these important issues.

Cheers,

Evan Glass

Chair, Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board
