Montgomery County’s upcoming “Walk & Ride Challenge”
FROM OUR FRIENDS AT THE SILVER SPRING TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT DISTRICT (TMD)
I would like to share some important information about Montgomery County’s upcoming “Walk & Ride Challenge”.
The three week Walk & Ride Challenge was created as a way to raise awareness about commuting options and to promote walking as a healthy addition to a person’s commute. Participants register online in company teams. Early Bird registration has been extended to August 10. Team members will receive pedometers the first week of September, and then begin to log their steps from September 10 - 28.
Register today: Silver Spring Walk & Ride Registration
There will be weekly prize drawings for the most steps taken and, at the end of the Challenge, the team and the individual participant with the highest number of steps will win valuable grand prizes!
This year, the Walk & Ride Challenge will be held in four of the County’s Transportation Management Districts (TMDs), and participants will compete only against commuters in their own TMD. All of the TMDs have been working together to coordinate on rules, prizes, and promotional items, including pedometers.
Silver Spring and Friendship Heights businesses are encouraged to join in the competitive spirit by sponsoring teams of their own employees, donating prizes or becoming involved through a general sponsorship for the opportunity to have their company logo on the Walk & Ride t-shirt, website, and e-newsletter.
Please download the Walk & Ride flyer and post at your work site or community gathering place. This flyer will also be sent out to all employer contacts in Silver Spring.
For more information, visit the Walk and Ride web site: http://walkandride.org
So, get your walking shoes ready and think of a clever team name – the Challenge begins in September!
