Police Department Begins Implementing "Safe City"

Police Department Begins Implementing "Safe City" Crime Prevention Program in the Silver Spring's Downtown Area!

Safe City, a Target Corporation initiative launched in 2003, encourages the sharing of information and the use of technology to unite law enforcement, local businesses and community organizations in a partnership to reduce crime and build safer communities.  The Safe City program works toward these goals by emphasizing the sharing of information at meetings and by quicker means such as e-mail and real-time communication.  The program also encourages the use of enhanced technology and the implementation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment.

Safe City encourages companies to make the best use of CCTV by placing cameras in the most effective positions to detect and deter crime.  Any business located within the Silver Spring central business district (downtown) that would like to learn more or take part in this preventative program is asked to contact 3rd District Lieutenant Robert Carter at  301-565-7740.
