STEM Smart: Buoyancy/Archimedes- When Liquids Push Objects Up

About

Do you feel lighter when standing neck deep inside a swimming pool? This is because liquids push objects up when those objects are inside the liquid. This force is called buoyancy. Find out more about the story and the mathematics (sg=wt in air/(wt in air – wt under water)) behind buoyancy. Engineer Ragu Nathan will explain this, we will do experiments and take measurements, and we will watch videos to learn how buoyancy can work for us. For ages 10-14. Registration required. Register online or by calling 240-773-9420. Generously sponsored by the Montgomery County Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter. 3rd floor meeting room.
